Agency Chapter Implementation
FAQ’s and simple steps to initiate your agency’s NPS-AID Chapter.
Q. Our agency is ready to activate our Public Safety A.I.D. chapter and support this incredible national initiative. What’s next?
A: That’s great! You are taking the first step towards supporting an initiative that will drastically strengthen public safety’s ability to provide valuable services to our disabled community partners while reducing the risk to our community and public safety officials. To activate your agency’s NPS-AID chapter, lets start by completing the below NPS-AID Chapter Implementation Application.
Q. What does the application do?
A. The NPS-AID Implementation Application provides the needed information to begin the process of activating each agency’s NPS-AID Chapter – such as the agency name, ORI, number of sworn officers, and the name and contact information for the person who will serve as the agency NPS-AID manager.
Q. We see in the application, we need to provide our agency ORI code. Why?
A. The NPS-AID platform is based within the “National Law Enforcement and Community Policing Integrated Network” (OPS Network) where all government agencies are listed and authorized via their official ORI number. This is required to activate the agency.
Q. Does our agency need to be an official member of the “National Law Enforcement and Community Policing Integrated Network” (OPS Network) to form our NPS-AID chapter?
A. Not at all! While full member agencies of the “National Law Enforcement and Community Policing Integrated Network” (OPS Network) are automatically granted access to the NPS-AID, any official governmental law enforcement agency can form an NPS-AID Chapter independent of a full “National Law Enforcement and Community Policing Integrated Network” (OPS Network) partnership.
Q. What are the chapter costs and are there any hidden fees?
A. The yearly chapter fees vary based on agency size (active members), which is usually reflective of the size of the community each agency covers and serves. Either way, the fees are very affordable for any agency and range from between $250.00 – $1,200.00 per year.
As far as hidden costs – None*! NPS-AID supporting chapter fees cover all the features of the platform. The fees are all inclusive.
Q. How do we submit our chapter support fees?
A. A NPS-AID on-boarding member will discuss the procurement options with you. There are many avenues to fund your chapter that range from state contracts, GSA, direct payment and more. Since the fees are very low, most agencies support the NPS-AID program from their main budget as the fees almost always fall well under agency caps for expenditures.
Q. Are there any costs for our disabled community partners?
A. None! The NPS-AID program is 100% no cost for any community partner that joins from across the nation. The entire platform is financially supported by supporting NPS-AID chapter partner agencies.
Q. We see we need to select a “NPS-AID Chapter Manager”. What does the manager do?
A. The NPS-AID Chapter Manager oversees the rollout and implementation of the program and is the primary Master Administrator for the agency. They will on-board and approve new users, control access permissions and more. This should be a person of rank who has the ability to implement policy and manage a project. But rest easy, it is a very easy process and position to hold!
Q. How long will it take to hear back once we complete the application?
A. In general you will be contacted within 48 hours to complete the process.
Q. Once we are activated, what do we get?
A. Everything needed to standup, rollout and manage your NPS-AID program today and into the future, to include (Click here to view the “AID Chapter” Info Video):
-
- Access to the NPS-AID system and database for all agency users.
- Agency branded chapter logos and branded community interface portal.
- Full password protected access to the NPS-AID Learning Center.
- Agency branded promotional materials and video PSA’s to assist with promoting your chapter.
- Agency policy templates to assist with regulating the use of your NPS-AID chapter platform for agency users.
- Press Release templates to assist with announcing your chapter.
- Full community side record management, security, upkeep and unlimited data storage.
- Training, Support and so much more.
Q. How long does the average agency take to fully implement the NPS-AID program?
A. From start to finish, most average size agencies can have the NPS-AID program fully up and running in less than one week.
Q. Once our chapter is active, can our users see community members from other locations?
A. Yes! The NPS-AID program is a true cross-jurisdictional network system that is housed within and utilizes the power of the “National Law Enforcement and Community Policing Integrated Network” (OPS Network). This means that not only does each agency have access and full control of the community partners who join within their jurisdiction, but to all member information from across the nation. No jurisdictional limits.
Q. What is the difference between the NPS-AID program and a local “Special Needs Registry”?
A. Most SNR’s are local lists that rarely cross jurisdictional borders and are often perceived to focus mainly on conditions such as Autism, etc… Also, for many users an SNR carries a negative stigma due to other government systems that use the terms “registry” and “special needs”.
The NPS-AID platform was developed to conquer the many limitations of localized SNR’s while not maintaining a “registry” but creating a partnership with all of our disabled community (for conditions ranging from Autism to mobility issues), and bringing everyone together on a secure, centralized national system that welcomes all of our law enforcement professionals and disabled community partners.
Q. What types of disabilities are accepted into the NPS-AID program?
A. The “National Public Safety Alliance for Individuals with Disabilities” is open to any person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities due to a physical and/or intellectual disability. Some of the conditions include but are not limited to:
Mental Health Issues • Mobility Issues • Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease • Cognitive Impairments • Autism • Asperger Syndrome • Oxygen Dependency • Hearing, Vision, or Speech Deficits • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder • Dialysis Dependent • Paralysis /Stroke Patients • Guillain-Barre’ syndrome (GBS) • Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) • Developmental/ Intellectual Disabilities • Life Threatening Allergies • More
Q. Can we search the platform by more than just a name?
A. Yes! All authorized users can search the NPS-AID platform by name, address, member description and more. The NPS-AID platform is an excellent tool for not only rendering aid or assisting when interacting with a disabled NPS-AID community member during a traffic stop or emergency, but also when interacting with disabled partners who cannot identify themselves or have gone missing. The uses to assist both our public safety officials and disabled community participants are near endless.
Q. Does the NPS-AID program support any other initiatives?
A. Yes! Services and initiatives such as “AngelSense” assistive technology and the growing “Blue Envelope Program” are just a couple examples of other initiatives that are integrated into the NPS-AID program and available to our community and public safety partners.
Q. If we still have questions, who do we contact?
A. The staff at the NPS-AID is always available to answer any questions or assist.
